20/20 Vision But Still Feel Off? It Could Be BVD

1 min read

You can have 20/20 vision and still struggle with headaches, dizziness, eye strain, motion sickness, reading fatigue, driving discomfort, or feeling overwhelmed in busy environments.

That is because 20/20 only measures how clearly you see. It does not fully measure how well your two eyes work together.

What Is BVD?

Binocular Vision Dysfunction, or BVD, happens when the eyes are not working together as efficiently as they should. Even small alignment problems can force the brain to work harder to combine both images into one stable picture.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Eye strain

  • Motion sickness

  • Trouble reading

  • Screen fatigue

  • Driving discomfort

  • Light sensitivity

  • Feeling off-balance

  • Visual overstimulation

A routine eye exam can miss these problems because someone may still see 20/20 and have healthy eyes.

What Can Help?

Depending on the patient, treatment may include prism glasses, vision therapy, or other forms of binocular vision care.

The goal is not just clearer vision. It is more comfortable, stable, efficient vision.

What Should You Do?

If this sounds like what you are experiencing, you can schedule a BVD evaluation at Vivid Visions Optometry in Valencia, California.

If you live too far away to travel to our office, you can schedule a virtual consultation. We can review your symptoms, explain what type of evaluation may be appropriate, and help guide you toward a provider closer to home.

A virtual consultation does not replace an in-person eye exam and prism glasses cannot be prescribed virtually.

20/20 vision does not always mean your binocular vision is functioning normally. If you still feel off, it may be worth checking how your eyes work together.
