FAQs
  • Do you accept insurances? Will insurance cover my BVD exam and glasses?
Yes, we currently accept major vision insurance plans such as VSP, EyeMed, and Davis Vision. These plans typically cover: Routine eye exams Contact lens fittings Optical frames Prescription lenses Contact lens orders Please confirm that our office is in-network with your specific insurance plan. If you’re unsure about your eligibility or coverage, feel free to call our office for assistance. Important: We currently do not accept any medical insurance. The following services are not covered by vision or medical insurance and will be out-of-pocket: Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) Evaluation NeuroBVD Evaluation All BVD follow-up visits There is a separate charge for each visit, and full payment is due at check-in on the day of your appointment. We’re happy to provide an itemized receipt upon request if you would like to file a claim with your insurance for possible reimbursement. Depending on your prescription after the BVD Evaluation, you may still be able to use your vision insurance for glasses or lenses. Our front desk team will go over those details with you after your exam.
  • How long will each exam take?
Routine Eye Exam: Approximately 15–20 minutes. Eye Exam with Contact Lens Fitting: Approximately 30 minutes. Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) Evaluation: A comprehensive 1-hour exam that includes VR headset testing, manual measurements, and trial prism framing. Neuro + BVD Evaluation: A detailed 1.5-hour exam that includes everything in the standard BVD Evaluation, along with additional neurovisual testing. BVD Follow-Up Visit: Takes about 15–20 minutes and includes re-testing with the VR headset to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Annual BVD Re-Evaluation: Approximately 30 minutes, including updated VR headset testing, manual measurements, and trial prism framing to reassess and fine-tune your prescription.
  • What’s the difference between Neuro+BVD and BVD exam?
Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) Evaluation This 1-hour comprehensive evaluation includes: Virtual reality (VR) testing Manual prism measurements Trial prism framing to assess alignment and symptom relief Neuro + BVD Evaluation This 1.5-hour exam includes everything in the standard BVD evaluation, plus additional neurovisual testing, including: Visual field analysis In-depth pupil testing Contrast sensitivity testing Color vision testing Oculomotor dynamic function testing These evaluations are designed to uncover deeper visual and neurological issues that may be contributing to your symptoms and help guide a highly personalized treatment plan.
  • How often do I need to come in after my initial BVD exam? How often do I need to change my prescription?
After your initial Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) Evaluation, you’ll receive a personalized prism lens prescription. Once your glasses are ready and you’ve had time to adjust to wearing them, you’ll return for a 4-week follow-up appointment. During this visit, the doctor will evaluate your progress and determine the timing of your next follow-up. Based on how your visual system is responding, you may need: A change in your prescription to further improve eye alignment The addition of a customized vision therapy program to support your recovery and strengthen your visual skills Adjustments are common and part of the process—we fine-tune your care to match your individual progress and symptoms.
  • What should I expect during my initial BVD exam? Do I need to bring anything?
Your initial Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) Evaluation is a comprehensive appointment and may feel longer than a typical eye exam. You’ll receive a detailed explanation of your eye alignment, how it affects your symptoms, and what treatment options are best for you. Please plan to arrive a little early so we can complete your pre-testing and ensure all paperwork is filled out before your appointment begins. If you have any notes or records from previous eye doctors, neurologists, or specialists, feel free to bring them with you—they can help us better understand your case.
  • Will I be dilated or not able to drive after the BVD exam?
No, eye dilation is not performed during BVD evaluations. Eye dilation involves using special drops to temporarily widen the pupils, allowing the doctor to thoroughly examine the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels in the back of the eye. While important for assessing overall eye health, it is not necessary for binocular vision testing. Since the BVD exam is comprehensive and may leave you feeling mentally or physically fatigued, you may want to bring a family member or friend to drive you home, especially if you're sensitive to visual changes. If you're interested in dilation, you can request it during your routine eye exam. We recommend dilation every two years as part of your regular eye health screening.
  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before your appointment, as well as missed appointments without prior notice, will incur a fee equal to the full cost of the scheduled service. We appreciate your understanding as this policy helps us reserve dedicated time for each patient and maintain the quality of care we provide.
  • Does my follow up appointment need to be in person or can I do it virtually?
Doctor recommends that your follow up is in person so we can run more tests with your glasses and compare data from your initial visit. If you are not local, you may book a virtual consult and follow up with the doctor online.
  • Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes, you can book a virtual consultation through our website. These appointments are a great way to discuss your symptoms, ask questions, and find out if you're a good candidate for treatment. Please note that virtual consultations are not full eye exams, and the doctor cannot provide a prescription during a virtual visit. To receive a prescription for glasses or contact lenses, you’ll need to schedule an in-person exam at our office.
  • Do you offer Neurolens?
Yes, our office offers Neurolens as part of our treatment options. These specialized prism lenses are designed to help with symptoms like headaches, eye strain, neck pain, and visual fatigue caused by eye misalignment. Not everyone is a candidate, so your eligibility will be evaluated and discussed with the doctor during your visit.
  • How long will it take to get my glasses?
We have a selection of lenses in stock, so some glasses can be ready the same day when paired with a choice from our designer frames. Most glasses, however, are custom-made and sent to the lab, which typically takes about 10–12 business days. As soon as your glasses are ready for pickup or shipping, you’ll receive a text message notification from us.
  • Can I use my own optical frame or purchase it at another location?
Yes, you're welcome to bring in your own frames! Just make sure they are: Comfortable on your nose bridge and behind your ears In good condition to support new lenses Offering a sufficient lens area for your prescription and any specialized treatments (like prism lenses) Our team will assess your frames to ensure they’re suitable for the type of lenses you need.
  • Can you ship my glasses to me when they are ready?
Yes, we can ship your glasses directly to you for an additional shipping fee. Just let our team know your preferred shipping address, and we’ll take care of the rest once your glasses are ready.
