CUSTOM CONTACT LENS FITTING

Soft contact lenses may not be the best option for everyone for any number of reasons. Due to the individual eye shape, certain conditions or impairments or the aftermath of surgery, some patients are considered to be “hard to fit” as contact lens wearers. For hard to fit patients that prefer to wear contact lenses however, there are options available that can provide comfortable and effective contact lens wear. This will require a custom fitting with an eye doctor that knows your condition and the various products available to find the right match for your specific condition.

🔴 Who Needs a Custom Contact Lens Examination?

If you need a contact lens exam or to renew your prescription, here’s what you should know:

Visual Symptoms:

- Blurry vision with current contact lenses

Conditions Affecting Contact Lens Comfort:

Dry Eye Syndrome: This condition causes dry, gritty, burning, red, and irritated eyes, often leading to blurred vision. Contact lenses can sometimes worsen these symptoms. If you have chronic dry eyes, it's essential to seek treatment from your eye doctor before trying contact lenses. Once managed, there are numerous options designed for dry eyes, including specific soft contacts and solutions. Your doctor may also suggest gas permeable (GP) lenses that retain moisture better than soft lenses, or advise on a wearing schedule to minimize discomfort.

Astigmatism: This condition causes blurred or double vision due to the cornea having two curves instead of one. Traditional lenses may not fit well, requiring specialized lenses like toric or RGP lenses. Toric lenses are custom-made to stay in place, while RGP lenses are used if rotation issues occur. These lenses are more expensive and take longer to produce but offer better vision correction for astigmatism.
